Luxurious Pillows
The Unsung Hero of SleepAt Marshall & Stewart, we believe a pillow is not a simple afterthought.
It is the finishing touch that allows your bed to perform at its very best.
A pillow is the keystone that aligns your neck and spine, supports your posture, and completes the chain of sleep.
“When you sleep properly, your neck and spine are in perfect alignment. The pillow is the small but vital component that makes that possible. Get it wrong, and no mattress in the world can save you.”

Ethical Husbandry
Birds are kept near water so they preen naturally, producing down and plumage of exceptional quality.
Cleaning & Sorting
Down is washed, sterilised, and separated in vast drying vats. Lighter down rises, heavier feathers settle. The result: a purer, softer fill.
Honest Labelling
Our German partners label our pillows conservatively as “90/10” (90% down, 10% feather). In truth, the actual feather content is often far lower
They refuse to overstate. Integrity matters more than marketing.
The Science of Fill
We use three grades of goose down, each prized for different qualities:
- Hungarian Goose Down – Plentiful, superb all-round performance.
- Canadian Goose Down – Larger, loftier clusters, less abundant.
- Siberian Goose Down – The rarest, from the coldest climates; exceptionally light yet insulating, allowing less fill to achieve the same warmth and support.
Feather is sometimes blended for firmness and affordability, but too much introduces sharp quills that prick through. To avoid this, we prefer three-chamber construction:
- Core Chamber: Feather, sealed in its own pouch, provides firmer resistance.
- Outer Chambers: 100% down on both sides, giving your face that cloud-like softness while maintaining structure.
“A pure down pillow will cradle you in comfort, but for those who want a touch more resistance, the three-chamber design is superb. It’s the best of both worlds — luxury and support in one.” — Brent Cooper
Sizes and Proportions
- Standard Pillow (50 × 75 cm): For single, double, and king beds.
- Continental Pillow ( 65 x 65cm): These square pillows are ideal to use when leaning up against your headboard. Often filled with a higher feather to down ratio, which provides a firmer support.
- Super King Pillow (50 × 90 cm): Essential for wider beds; avoids the unsightly gap between partners.
- Custom Sizes: Extra-long or shaped pillows can be made to order for bespoke bed dimensions.
Many clients use a combination: super king pillows for the base layer, topped with standards for layering and design and a square pillow to sit up in bed.

Firmness by Fill Weight
Firmness is not achieved by synthetic tricks — it is calculated by fill weight:
- Soft: the lightest fill; down clusters provide gentle cradle.
- Medium: approximately 100g more filling; versatile support for mixed sleepers.
- Firm: a further 100g added; ideal for side sleepers who need extra lift to keep the neck aligned with the spine.
The right choice depends on your sleeping posture and how deeply your mattress allows you to sink. A softer mattress requires a softer pillow; a firmer mattress demands a firmer one.
Hygiene and Longevity
Pillows work harder than most people realise — absorbing perspiration, skin cells, and oils every night.
- Pillow Protectors: We recommend always using a zip-on protector beneath your pillowcase.
- Washing: Wash every six months.
- Replacement: Expect a lifespan of 18–24 months with proper care. Beyond this, even the best pillow begins to lose loft and hygiene.
“People will spend thousands on a bed and then keep the same pillow for ten years. It’s madness. A pillow is a disposable item — you must refresh it to keep your sleep healthy.” — Brent Cooper
A Pillow Worth Treasuring
Some clients become so attached to their pillow that they take it on holiday, unwilling to risk a night without it. We understand why.
When made with ethical sourcing, hand-cleaned down, precision chambering, and correct fill weights, a pillow stops being a commodity. It becomes the silent partner in your nightly ritual — the element you feel most intimately against your skin, the part that can make or break your sleep.
